Short answer: A Mullvad VPN voucher is a prepaid code that adds time to a Mullvad account. You type the 16-character code into the Mullvad app, and if it is valid the app tells you how much time was added. Vouchers are sold through resellers that Mullvad lists on its own site, and they are not covered by Mullvad’s money-back guarantee: refunds for voucher purchases are handled by the store that sold it.
Everything below was checked against Mullvad’s own pricing, help and reseller pages on October 5, 2026. Where Mullvad does not say something, this page says so instead of guessing. We did not buy or redeem a voucher ourselves.

What a Mullvad VPN voucher actually is

Mullvad accounts are identified by an account number. A voucher is a scratch-card style activation code that tops up one of those accounts, whether it is new or already in use.
Mullvad’s own explanation of why it works this way is about privacy. Its resellers page says the design of the activation code removes the possibility for third parties to link a payment to a Mullvad account, and that you can gift time to a friend without knowing their account number. That is the company’s claim about its design. It is not something an independent party has tested, and what a shop records when you buy the card is a separate matter.
How to redeem a voucher

The route Mullvad documents on its app help page is short:
- Open the Mullvad VPN app and log in to your account.
- Click the Redeem voucher button.
- Enter the 16-character code from the voucher and click Redeem.
- If the voucher is valid, the app shows a success message about the time added.
That is everything the help page says about the process. Anything beyond it, such as how a typo or a used code is reported, is not described there.
What Mullvad costs, and why that matters for a voucher

According to its pricing page, Mullvad charges €5 per month. The price is the same whether you pay for one month, one year or ten years, and one account can be used on up to five devices.
The payment methods listed on that page are cash, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Monero, bank wire, credit card, PayPal, Swish, Eps transfer, Bancontact, iDEAL | Wero and Przelewy24. Cryptocurrency payments get a 10% discount, which Mullvad attributes to lower fees and less administration.
Vouchers are not mentioned on the pricing page. The page only points to resellers that may offer different price models. So the real cost of a voucher is whatever the reseller charges, and the page gives no list of voucher sizes or prices.
Where Mullvad says to buy a voucher

Mullvad’s partnerships and resellers page names these official sellers:
- Amazon, in several countries
- Inet and Webhallen, both Swedish electronics retailers
- ProxyStore, based in Germany
- SerialCart, based in Austria
- Laptop with Linux, a Dutch reseller
The page does not say anything about vouchers sold anywhere else. What follows is our opinion, not Mullvad’s: buy from a seller on that list, and redeem the code soon after you get it. A voucher code works like cash. Whoever sees it first can use it, so do not post a photo of it or send it over an unsecured channel.
Refunds: where vouchers fall outside the guarantee

Mullvad’s refund page separates three cases:
- The 14-day guarantee. Mullvad offers it “for some payment methods.” The page does not list which ones in the text we read, so check before you rely on it.
- Vouchers. Refunds are handled by the store or reseller. Mullvad says it has no payment information for those sales and therefore cannot refund them.
- Cash. No refunds, because of anti-money-laundering regulations.
In practice a voucher means you accept the reseller’s return policy instead of Mullvad’s. If you are still deciding whether Mullvad suits you, paying one month by a method the guarantee covers is the lower-risk way to find out. If you already know you want it, a voucher is a reasonable way to pay.
What we could not verify

Mullvad’s pages do not answer these, so we cannot either:
- the sizes and prices of vouchers at each reseller
- whether an unused voucher expires
- whether you can buy a voucher directly on mullvad.net
- how long a code stays valid after purchase
The reseller’s product page or Mullvad support is the place to confirm these before you pay.
Voucher, cash, crypto or card?

Going only by what Mullvad publishes: a voucher gives you a code that is not tied to your account at the point of sale and is refunded by the shop. Cash is mailed with a randomly generated payment token and cannot be refunded. Crypto brings the 10% discount. Cards and PayPal are ordinary online payments, and some payment methods carry the 14-day guarantee. None of these is better in every case. It depends on whether you value refund rights or payment separation more.
