SecureGuides is a VPN and antivirus review and comparison site, based in Morocco. We compare providers using real, sourced facts — independent lab results, audit history, documented incidents, and publicly verifiable specifications — rather than an in-house testing lab.
Who We Are
SecureGuides was founded in 2025 by Amar Ghafir, based in Morocco. The site is written and maintained by one person, not a large in-house editorial team — an earlier version of this page described a team of “cybersecurity professionals, network engineers, and privacy advocates,” which didn’t accurately describe how the site is actually run, and has been corrected.
What We Actually Do
We compare VPN and antivirus providers using:
- Independent lab results and audits — AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives, and audit firms like Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, Cure53, and Securitum, cited with the specific date of the result.
- Real-world evidence — documented court cases, subpoenas, and regulatory actions (like Kaspersky’s U.S. retail ban) that test privacy and security claims in ways a marketing page can’t.
- Publicly verifiable specifications — server counts, pricing, protocol support, and jurisdiction, sourced directly from each provider’s own current documentation.
- Honest disclosure of real weaknesses — including documented billing complaints, false-positive rates, and legal restrictions, disclosed alongside the positives, even for products we have an affiliate relationship with.
We do not operate a fixed in-house hardware testing lab, and earlier versions of several pages on this site described one in specific detail (hardware specs, testing schedules, device lists) that we can’t verify actually happened as described. We’ve gone through the site and corrected those claims wherever we found them, replacing invented numbers with sourced facts or an honest “we don’t have verified data for this” where no real source exists.
Editorial Standards
- Independence: No provider pays for placement in our comparisons.
- Transparency: We disclose affiliate relationships clearly, and they don’t determine which facts we cite or which weaknesses we disclose.
- Accuracy over invented precision: We’d rather cite a real, dated third-party source than publish an invented number that sounds more precise.
- Willingness to correct: Including our own past claims, when we find them to be unsupported.
