How SecureGuides Reviews Are Built
SecureGuides is a small, independent publication — not a lab with a dedicated testing facility. Being upfront about how a review is actually put together matters more to us than claiming a testing process we don’t run. Here’s what goes into an article before it’s published:
- Hands-on access: Amar personally uses the VPN and antivirus products he has an active subscription or trial account for, on his own devices, to check setup, interface, and everyday performance
- Third-party benchmark data: antivirus detection and performance scores are drawn from published AV-TEST and AV-Comparatives results rather than in-house malware testing
- Vendor documentation: server locations, protocol support, pricing tiers, and refund policies are checked directly against each provider’s current published information
- Independent audit reports: no-logs and security claims are checked against publicly available third-party audits where one exists, and flagged as unaudited where none does
- Reader and community feedback: recurring complaints or praise reported by users inform what we look into more closely, though individual anecdotes are never presented as our own test results
- Editorial independence: affiliate commissions do not influence rankings or verdicts — a product that performs poorly is scored poorly regardless of its commission rate
This is a narrower process than a large-scale testing lab, and we’d rather describe it accurately than inflate it. Where an article states a specific figure — a speed result, a detection rate, a server count — that figure is attributed to the source it came from: an independent lab, an audit report or the vendor documentation.
Some reviews also show an editorial score out of 10, such as 8.4/10. That score is our own judgment, applied the same way across every product: security and privacy (30%), performance (25%), features (20%), value for money (15%), and ease of use (10%). It’s informed by the sources listed above — audits, published lab results, vendor documentation — not a certification from any lab, and not the product’s own marketing score.

SecureGuides follows a strict editorial policy. Affiliate relationships exist with some of the products reviewed on this site — meaning SecureGuides may earn a commission if a reader purchases through a link — but these relationships have no influence over test scores, verdicts, or rankings.
