This page describes the editorial standards SecureGuides applies to every piece of content published on this site: how we decide what to cover, what sources we accept, how we handle conflicts of interest, and how we correct errors.
Our Independence
SecureGuides is an independently run publication. It is written and maintained by Amar Ghafir, a VPN and cybersecurity researcher based in Morocco. There is no external investor, corporate parent, or advertising sales team. Revenue comes entirely from affiliate commissions when readers purchase products through our links.
Affiliate Relationships
Some links on SecureGuides are affiliate links. When you click and purchase, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. This does not change the facts we cite or which weaknesses we disclose about a product. A full list of affiliate programs we participate in is available on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Affiliate status does not determine rankings. If a product we earn a commission from performs poorly against its peers, it receives a lower ranking. If it performs well, it ranks high — because of its performance, not the commission. We have no tiered or premium placement available for purchase.
What We Publish
SecureGuides covers VPN services and antivirus software. Content types include:
- Product reviews — structured evaluation of a single VPN or antivirus product, covering features, pricing, privacy, and known issues
- Comparison guides — head-to-head comparisons between two or more products on specific criteria
- Buying guides — category-level recommendations for specific use cases (streaming, gaming, small business, specific platforms)
- How-to guides — setup and configuration instructions for specific products on specific platforms
- Explainers — factual overviews of technical concepts (VPN protocols, encryption types, malware categories)
What We Will Not Publish
- Paid reviews or sponsored placements. No vendor can pay to appear on SecureGuides or to receive favorable coverage.
- Unverified claims presented as original research. If we cite a number (a detection rate, a speed figure, a server count), it comes from a named, dated, external source or from the provider’s own official documentation.
- Fabricated ratings or aggregated scores not derived from actual data. We have removed previous content that did this and do not reintroduce it.
- Misleading “best of” claims that are not supported by the content of the article.
Sourcing Standards
Claims about product features, pricing, and technical specifications are verified against each provider’s own official documentation at the time of writing. Claims about detection rates, performance impact, and audit outcomes are attributed to specific independent labs or security firms, with the date of the test or audit cited. Where a fact is likely to change (pricing, server count, ownership), we flag it as time-sensitive.
We do not cite press releases, vendor white papers, or PR pitches as authoritative sources for factual claims. We cite them as primary sources only when quoting what a company has stated about itself, clearly identified as the company’s own statement.
Corrections Policy
We update pages when we find outdated or incorrect information. When a correction involves a material factual error — a wrong price, a claim that turned out to be unsupported, a product change that makes previous advice wrong — we update the content and update the ‘last updated’ date to reflect the genuine review.
If you believe something on this site is factually wrong, contact us at info@secureguides.com. We aim to review factual corrections within 30 days. We do not remove accurate negative information about a product at a vendor’s request.
Update Frequency
High-traffic review and comparison pages are reviewed at least every six months. Pages covering products with frequent changes (pricing, ownership, feature updates) are reviewed more frequently. The ‘last updated’ date on every page reflects a genuine content review, not an automated date stamp. Guides that have not been reviewed recently carry a notice to that effect when we identify them.
